Interior design questions: “What if I don’t like the design?”

Many of those interested in having a home designed by a professional will have seen the TV programmes where the designer is shown the space and off they go with the design without any input from the home owner.  It’s also often the case that designers will draft an initial design idea to win a project because it shows off how creative they are – I have done that myself and it did work.

However, when a design is bespoke, like those offered by SA1 Interiors, it can’t possibly be created without the client’s input.  Now that also may be off putting, but let me explain further.

A bespoke design us not done by saying “this is what will work in YOUR home and that’s that”.  Every design starts with a detailed consultation by me in your home with you.  Your home is an extension of you, your, family, your lifestyle, and your needs.  It’s not just about aesthetics, nice fabrics and pretty colours.  I often spend up to two hours with my clients at the initial consultation, finding out all of these things as well as your personal style preferences.  This also raises the question “but what if I don’t know what I like, that’s why I’m hiring you?” – correct.  However, do you like every design you see done by an interior designer? Probably not.  Are there colours you like and dislike? What makes you feel relaxed? Do you love flowery patterns? Do you like faux fur? There are so many things that I will need to find out before any design takes place, because everyone is different and they are especially different to me.

Finding out all this information is essential to come up with a working creative brief, upon which the first stages of the design will be done: space planning and the mood board.  This is the first part of the design that you will see.  Whilst I don’t like to tempt fate, or even blow my own trumpet, I haven’t yet got this wrong at this stage on any of my projects.  I have a 100% success rate on presenting the first stages of the design.  I trust that this is due to my thorough consultation process.

If you don’t like anything you see at the point of the mood board, or the next stage of the design concept, because there will be options, then that’s where we make updates.  And so the design process continues with your input.  Of course, there is a finite point where continuous changes will only take the process over the contracted time, but that’s all considered in the package pricing so there are no hidden fees.

Each design is unique and bespoke because it is yours.  I am purely the creator who ensures you have the home you want, even if you didn’t know what you wanted!

If you would like to discuss your project to see if one of my design packages would work for you, then get in touch, I would love to chat to you.
