HOW TO INCREASE MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS AND CREATE A GYM THAT SELLS IT SELLS

Vitality Gym, Port Talbot

We were contacted by the owner of of the gym, who really needed help with redesigning the gym so that the member experience was vastly improved. With new gyms opening in the area, it was crucial to remain attractive and be competitive.

Gyms are becoming more up market, there is no doubt about it. Members expect more than the best equipment, they want to be able to share it on socials - it’s just how the market works now.

The Project.

The owner had a big emphasis on the community inside and outside of the gym and wanted to use this as inspiration for the design. Surprisingly - we used the local steel works! Yes, its true…read on.

The gym required all new finishes and lighting for an upgrade. Track lighting, neons and LEDs were added to the standard lighting to give the gym more of an atmosphere.

Raw finsihes such as brick, concrete, wood and metal were used to add depth and character. Port Talbot is an industrial town so this design was highly influenced by that.

The client needed help to design the new gym, source the finishes and create visuals which helped them see what the finished project would look like. The visuals were used on social media to give members regular updates on the refurbishment which helped with their relations whilst they had limited access to the gym. It helped manage expectations of customers and generate more excitement and build up for them. The finsihed project resulted in members sharing photo updates on social media and subsequently an increased membership body meaning more profits for the owners.

MAXIMISING TURNOVER CAPACITY THROUGH SPACE PLANNING AND DESIGN FOR A CITY CENTRE RESTAURANT

BELLA CIAO, SWANSEA

SA1 Interiors was approached by a local family who run a very successful restaurant in a town on the outskirts of Swansea.  They wanted to branch out into the city and expand their business with a second venue. All of the family worked in the business, so time was tight, meaning they needed someone external to take care of the design and think of all the time consuming details which were important to its success.

Their aim was to have a more contemporary setting than their other restaurant and be appealing to a wider audience in a competitive restaurant segment.  The most important issue was ensuring they used the space to its maximum capacity so that they could ensure a good turnover of diners.

The design package

The commercial design package to include explore the full user experience, which offers a design service through to the completion of a specification so contractors knew exactly what was needed to complete the design.

Stages

The restaurant premises held a significant place in Swansea’s history – the building itself had survived the blitz during the war.  It had always been a place to eat, so a very familiar place to Swansea residents.  But it needed some TLC to bring it up to standard.

We started with the layouts to maximise the number of seats, which was crucial for their investment

Working with the current fixtures to minimise costs of renovation was also important.

We wanted to keep some remnants of the former building to preserve some of the history.

With a few disruptions along the way, the restaurant is finally complete to open and operate.  The finished design was one that was versatile, appealing to a wider audience, traditional Italian, cosy when it needed to be, contemporary looking for that new audience appeal.

The restaurant is now getting reviews on its quality of food (not a surprise) bu also for the ambience created through the design.

HOW TO YOU GROW YOU HAIR SALON BUSINESS WHILST RUNNING YOUR HAIR SALON BUSINESS?

Estyle by Kacie & Co, Swansea

We were contacted by eStyle by Kacie & Co who were based in Skewen, Neath.  A highly successful hair salon in quite a busy market place.  The salon business was growing and needed a larger premises to accommodate them and their future growth plans.

The new shop was large enough, but there were so many factors to consider before committing to doing the construction and renovation:

·      Ten salon chairs were needed to maximise their investment

·      Bespoke designed and unique tables, seen in no other salon – how big could they be and where would they best fit

·      Five backwash chairs – where would they best fit

·      Finishes, fixtures and fittings to be in line with their new luxury branding and salon experience

These were all heavily time consuming tasks, which needed design skills when it came to design and drawing.  Quite difficult to do when you are a full time business owner.  These things take many hours, a full time job.  Tasks you may not assume were handled by an interior design company, but they are all part of the process of creating a design.

The design package.

The commercial design package with all added extras were used, including the 3D visuals and social media post creations.  This was a big investment for the salon and they needed full support from start to finish to help realise their goals with a set time frame.

They needed everything in their business plan and vision to work so that this business would keep growing and thriving.

Project stages.

The first stage was the space planning, all site surveying was done to establish where the services were, where the sinks and backwashes could go, where the ten seats on the bespoke designed tables would fit best, a seating area, and reception desk.

Once this was all considered from the drawings and inside the salon, we set to work on the finishes.

There was a very clear brief from the client, which is always helpful but not necessary, as we can guide with that.  The salon needed to have a luxury feel and offer their customers more than a regular hair salon experience, so all the finishes needed to reflect that whilst being timeless.

Before and after

The finished project continues to have amazing feedback from the salon’s customers, which is the best feedback we can get.

This salon continues to attract hundreds of customers, their reputation for hair is one of the best around, and their salon experience is there to match.
